Many people had been dreaming of greener pastures for many years when news hit that the United States of America is needing thousands of nurses in their country. In turn, many students, parents and even professionals had decided to pursue nursing career in the hopes of landing a job someday in the United States of America.

But now, due to the influx of Filipino nurses, more and more nurses had become jobless. The Philippine Nurses Association had even reported that close to 200,000 nurses have no work and is expected to increase. Is nursing profession about to collapse?

PNA executive director Maristela Abenojar reported that last July there were 37,679 board passers and they will compete with 160,000 seeking nursing jobs.

Many had seeks jobs elsewhere, some had even applied as call center agents others had applied as Nursing Instructors in various University, some as Reviewers, put up other businesses, work as bankers while others are forced to work as volunteers in hospitals to gain experience in their chosen path.

Our government and we as nurse professionals should work hand in hand to combat this issues. We shouldn’t let this things further aggravate us. Schools and University should be properly monitored as well as Review Centers whose main purpose is to gain more monetary reward sacrificing the quality of the education to the graduates.

So I guess the answer is really up to us nurses. Should we let our Nursing Profession Collapse?
