What is IV Theraphy?
IV Theraphy is the giving of substance directly into a vein.

Why is IV Theraphy for?
Intravenous therapy may be used to correct electrolyte imbalances, to deliver medications, for blood transfusion or as fluid replacement to correct, for example, dehydration. Compared with other routes of administration, the intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver fluids and medications throughout the body. Some medications, as well as blood transfusions and lethal injections, can only be given intravenously.

What are the requirement inorder to undergo IV Theraphy Training?
In order to work in IV therapy, employers require applicants to have completed an accredited nursing program and hold a valid nursing license

If I decide to enroll in an IV Theraphy Program, What do I expect to learn?
Nurses enrolled in an IV therapy program learn about common intravenous medications, electrolyte and fluid calculations. They gain skills in phlebotomy and learn about medical issues that arise from IV therapy. Aspiring IV nurses also learn about catheters specific to long- or short-term treatments, including peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) and central venous lines.

Do employers prefer nurses who have undergone IV Theraphy?
We live in a competitive world. Whatever skill you have under your belt will be helpful in landing a job as a nurse. Many employers to hire registered nurses with at least two years of experience in nursing along with 1-2 years of experience in IV therapy. Some hiring organizations stipulate that the IV therapy experience must be fairly recent, usually within 2-5 years.
