MANILA, Philippines--The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, has urged newly appointed Commission on Higher Education chairman Romulo Neri to immediately shut down substandard nursing schools, saying the government must "protect the hopes and dreams of hundreds of thousands of aspiring nurse practitioners and their families."
TUCP president Democrito Mendoza, in a statement over the weekend, said the group was counting on Neri to take "decisive and resolute action against deficient nursing colleges that have opportunistically proliferated on account of the growing number of high school graduates wanting to take up the nursing course."
"Nursing institutions that collect sky-high tuition yet fail to provide adequate instruction to students are rotten," he said.
